I like Tracy and my last two reviews have shown that.This is a quick read giving insight as to how Tracy started her way to detective. Not that there aren't some nail biting moments, but with two books following, you know she'll be okay.
Good short story, but don't stop with this one. Read this author's full-length books to get the adrenalin going, the fingernails bit into the quick and sleeping with the lights on.Tracy Crosswhite, Seattle cop, has worked the night beat for six years. Sometimes her nights are boring, and sometimes….well, not so much. This time around Tracy gets a call concerning domestic disturbance. She answers the call, evaluates the situation, requests backup and gets zip. Now, everything is up to Tracy.Tracy is confronted with what could very well end with a fatality….maybe even hers. The situation could become extremely volatile. Without backup, Tracy is in a very frightening position. She thinks about her options, makes a decision and confronts the situation. She is prepared for an explosive confrontation......and she gets just that! Her adrenalin is going full blast, but she does what any good cop should do.This is a very short story. It is 45 minutes -1 hour reading time (depending upon how fast you read). The last 25% or approximately 15 minutes reading time contains the first two chapters of the next book, Her Final Breath, in the Tracy Crosswaite series.This author is a good storyteller. Try his books for a good adrenalin rush, and lots of suspenseful twists and turns that make you start locking your door and checking it twice, 'cause you're bound to find characters that are naughty not nice!
This seems to be a transition story. Events happen in the protagonist's career that will set the stage for some changes in the upcoming novels in the series. As such, it is a bit of a spoiler if you've not read the others first.If you're looking for a taste of the author's writing, this is a good start. The shout story form is used here just as it should be. The plot is not complicated but the story is gripping. It's a fast (< one hour) read.I bought this first, and have now gotten its predecessors. I rather wish I had done it in the other order.
The short stories of "The Academy" & "Third Watch" are best read before any of the Tracy Crosswhite novels. Both are short introductions to the character and explain why she decided to give up her profession to be a cop.Both are only 45-47 pages, yet both have a good deal packed into a short space. Each short stands alone as Mr. Dugoni carries a separate plot in each. Together, they make for a novel and complete introduction to the main and supporting characters. "Academy" should be read first, then "Third Watch."
This was my first taste of Dugoni, and I loved what I saw. There was nothing I disliked about this book which is a major feat. The way the the protagonist was introduced was genius. She's on a ride along with a young journalist who interviews her, providing the perfect opportunity to display to readers who Tracy Crosswhite is. If that wasn't enough, she's called into action during domestic dispute and see her personality in action. Robert Dugoni is a very skilled writer who warrants more attention.
Another fine piece of writing by Robert Dugoni. Not everyone can manage a full story in 47 pages with a true sense of character and a gripping plot. Mr. Dugoni appears to do it with ease. After reading "The Academy" I determined "Third Watch" was next on my list. Tracy Crosswhite skillfully handles a home hostage situation. I read with my breath held and heart pounding. That is what a talented author can do in a few pages. High praise Mr. Dugoni. An excellent short read.
A police officers with a strong desire to become a homicide detective. She had done her work well for six years as a beat cop on Third Shift.The night she had a reporter began quietly. Then she was called to a family disagreement. Past history put the family at risk for.harm.You will want to read this without more detail.I hope full novels with Ofc. Crosswhite.Will be available soon.
I chose this rating as follow up requires being read in the order of this series.The ending came quickly and took me by surprise. However the writergrabbed my attention and I intend to follow the series and the author!I prefer the Tracy Whitecross series order be more clear. Without a spoiler alert.. Its a typical cop story. However, its a short read & will hold your interest. Primarily told from a woman's prospective into the world of a uniformed officer. But with the recent all out assult on our men & women in blue I agree that our heroine must constantly stay on her toes...
